Job board software for staffing agencies

A staffing agency does not need a job board to make money from job postings. It needs one because candidate acquisition is the constraint on the business, and paying job boards for the same candidates as every competing agency is an expensive way to stay level.

That makes this the only use case in this list where the board is unambiguously a funnel rather than a product. Its job is to rank for the roles you recruit for, capture the candidate, and get them into the system your recruiters already live in, without asking anyone to work in a second tool.

How the money works

The board is a cost line that lowers a bigger one

Nothing on the board is sold. The return is the difference between what you currently pay per applicant on the major boards and what an owned channel costs once it is ranking. An agency board that produces a steady flow of inbound candidates for its core roles replaces a recurring advertising spend with a fixed software cost.

The second return is slower and larger: a board that ranks for "warehouse jobs in Leeds" is an asset the agency owns, and it keeps producing candidates in a downturn when the advertising budget is the first thing cut.

Some agencies do monetise the board, usually by opening it to clients who want to advertise roles the agency is not placing on. That works, but it changes what the board is, and it competes for attention with the funnel job. Pick one for the first year.

The question that decides it

“We already run Bullhorn. Why would we add another system?”

You should not add another system, and if the board becomes one, it has failed. The test is whether a recruiter ever has to open it. If applications arrive in the ATS and roles flow out of the ATS, the board is infrastructure rather than software your team has to adopt.

The mechanism is the API in one direction and webhooks in the other. Live roles are pushed from the ATS onto the board, and every application fires a webhook carrying the candidate, their answers and their resume file, which lands in the ATS as a new candidate record.

What this does not give you is a native, supported Bullhorn connector with a settings screen. It is an integration your developer or an automation platform builds once. If you need a vendor-maintained ATS connector, that is a fair reason to look elsewhere.

Questions staffing agencies ask

Will an agency job board actually rank against Indeed?

Not for broad, high-volume queries, and you should not plan around it. Where an owned agency board does win is the long tail: specific role plus specific place, and specific niche skills. Those queries have lower volume individually and convert far better, because a candidate searching "HGV class 1 jobs Doncaster" is closer to applying than one searching "driving jobs". A board with a few hundred well-structured location and role pages competes for thousands of those queries at once.

Should we show client names on our listings?

Mostly not, and this is one of the few places where a staffing board should behave differently from a normal job board. Naming the client invites the candidate to apply directly and invites competing agencies to approach them. The usual pattern is an anonymised employer with a sector descriptor, and the trade-off is a real one: anonymous listings convert worse. Some agencies name clients only on exclusive roles, which is a reasonable middle.

Can we run separate boards per specialism?

Yes, up to three on the Scale plan. Agencies with genuinely distinct brands, for instance a technology division and a light-industrial division, generally do better with separate boards, because the search visibility and the candidate expectations are unrelated. If the specialisms share candidates, one board with strong category pages is usually the better structure.
